Sean. K. – RITES Tutor

My passion is for teaching, but tutoring is what I truly enjoy: being able to cater to each student and propel them forward in their learning journey, especially utilizing up-to-date techniques. By far, students enjoy our lessons more when I incorporate art materials into our wordwork

Leslie D. – RITES Reading Specialist

The most fulfilling aspect for me isn’t just witnessing a student succeed in math; it’s when they start believing in themselves despite facing challenges. Building their confidence significantly impacts them, and showing them they can overcome difficulties, even when things are hard, is a lesson beyond the classroom. My most profound success at RITES was when a parent reached out not only to thank me for the improved grades but, more importantly, for the increased pride and confidence her daughter has gained since she started working with me. Her mom expressed that her daughter has come a long way to being able to advocate for herself and has gained skills that will extend far beyond high school, which truly warms my heart.

I tutor a student who is in 10th grade. We generally focus on upcoming assignments for her English and History classes - reviewing drafts, brainstorming ideas, organizing her thoughts about the content, etc. However, during one of our sessions a few weeks ago, my student asked if we could focus on a resume she needed to write and submit for a student leadership position. As we began our work together on this, I realized that she was naturally using all of the strategies that she and I usually employ for her academic work. She started by making an outline, then filled in her ideas, and discussed with me her thoughts about what to include and how to format it. I was glad to see that the academic skills she had strengthened transferred easily to support her in completing this "real world" task.
