Structured Literacy to Ensure All Students Learn to Read and Write

DIFFICULTY WITH READING, WRITING, SPELLING?

  • Avoids reading
  • Reads slowly/haltingly
  • Transposes words (felt/left)
  • Skips or guesses at words
  • Fatigues easily
  • Misspells words
  • Writes illegibly
  • Reverses letters (b/d)

Are these familiar? Is your child struggling or diagnosed with dyslexia? RITES can help. We’re literacy specialists who use a multisensory, structured literacy approach and tailor each lesson to your student’s needs for lifelong success.

Structured Literacy approaches emphasize highly explicit and systematic teaching of all crucial literacy components. Instruction begins with foundational skills, such as decoding and spelling. Then, teaching continues with higher-level literacy skills, such as reading comprehension and written expression.

Structured Literacy instruction uses evidence-based reading and writing practices to ensure all students learn to read and write. Structured Literacy instruction helps all students learn to read and write,  but is essential for those with learning differences and those struggling to learn to read.

RITES Reading Tutoring is Based on the Five Components of Structured Literacy Lessons:

  • Phonemic Awareness
  • Phonics
  • Oral Fluency
  • Vocabulary Development
  • Comprehension

Research from the National Reading Panel highlighted these five skills of reading. Practicing these specific reading components can dramatically improve students’ ability to read. These skills are the basis of our Structured Literacy Tutoring, using methods such as Orton-Gillingham/Wilson, and other researched methods as outlined in the RI Department of Education Right to Read Act.

Multisensory Teaching

RITES teachers will train the student/family how to use the program so they can access it through the internet and use it at home between sessions. This program’s peer-reviewed research has proven that Lexia® Core5® effectively increases reading proficiency and closes the reading gap.

Testimonials: High Praise for Teachers

We were so grateful to find this program. Our only regret is that we didn’t sign up earlier in our son’s education.

D.M., Parent

Every time someone asks about getting a tutor, I recommend RITES. I tell them of my experience with all of my 5 kids. They are all doing well academically: honors classes, President’s list, and scholarship for College. RITES has been a part of their success, and I am very grateful. Please keep up the good work. There are so many families like mine and so few places like RITES. Thank you.

I just wanted to tell you how thrilled I was to have Jeannette as Anna’s tutor. Jeannette is perfect for children like Anna with attention issues; she had an amazing ability to focus Anna, while also being kind. Jeannette clearly spent significant time preparing and organizing before she saw Anna each session, so that the entire time was dedicated to my daughter’s learning.. Importantly, Anna was truly sad when her time ended with Miss C. I’m sure you know that you have an incredibly professional woman teaching your students, but I wanted to be sure you heard it from me!!
