Do any of these difficulties sound familiar? RITES is here to help your student develop reading comprehension skills for lifelong success. We’re literacy specialists, specifically trained in the Orton Gillingham method.
What is Orton-Gillingham?
The Orton-Gillingham curriculum is a multisensory structured language program, which is an alternative, structured method for students of all ages who have difficulty with reading, writing, and spelling. Orton-Gillingham lessons are appropriate for dyslexic students and for those with memory, reading, and language difficulties.
“After watching this child work so hard year after year and continuously fail, this was like seeing a beautiful butterfly emerge to see what a glorious world there is through written words … which now make sense! I can’t thank you enough for opening this world to my girl.”
Why is Orton-Gillingham important?
Orton-Gillingham has the most research of any program to support its approach. It was developed in the 1930s by neurologist Dr. Samuel T. Orton and educator and psychologist Anna Gillingham. It is a highly regarded form of multi-sensory learning, incorporating auditory, kinesthetic, and visual learning pathways.
The Orton-Gillingham reading program is an instructional approach specifically designed for those with difficulties reading, spelling, and writing. Orton-Gillingham was the first program designed specifically for struggling readers. The Orton-Gillingham curriculum helps teach them the connections between sounds and letters while they build their comprehension skills.
“My son has become so confident with his reading and writing skills throughout the program. He absolutely loved his time there!”
